Day Trip: Monterey Bay Aquarium

Last weekend, we took a drive over to Monterey for a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  Monterey is only about 1.5 hours away from where we live, so it makes for the perfect day trip.  The weather was typical for Monterey:  overcast and misty.  Just perfect for a day inside the aquarium.  The aquarium was built on the site of a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row  (Steinbeck, anyone?)

Yummy Local Strawberries! On the way home, we stopped at a roadside stand called the “Thistle Hut” for some of these.

Artichokes! And some of these delicious “thistles”.

It was a great way to spend a summer’s day.

Have you taken an excellent day trip this summer?

  1. Wow, you got some great shots! Those seahorses are sooo cute! It's like their version of holding hands.

  2. Oh my, what gorgeous pictures. It looks like so much fun. I so wish we lived near one. Yummy strawberries! My favorite fruit.

  3. Beautiful aquarium photos. We love visiting aquariums.

  4. Neat! I live in Santa Cruz, where are you guys? I love your blog and I love the aquarium!

  5. They have flamingos now too, right? I have not even seen the sea horses. I am like 10 minutes from there and have not been in ages! We love the Thistle hut!
